Our Story

Red Rover Movement began with a simple question: Why did we stop playing?

As kids, we loved the game Red Rover—calling friends across the field, linking arms, laughing, and daring each other to break through. It was more than a game; it was connection, courage, and uncomplicated happiness. Years later, caught in the glow of our phones and the grind of daily life, we found ourselves longing for that same spirit of adventure and belonging.

We realized that play isn’t just for children—it’s a powerful force for community, creativity, and connection. And when grown-ups embrace it, something extraordinary happens: stress drops, joy rises, parks bloom, and very game helps fund real opportunities for kids to play, learn, and grow.

Red Rover Movement, Inc. is a non-profit organization born from this belief. By designing playful outdoor experiences for grown-ups, we raise funds to send kids to camps, afterschool adventures, and nature-based programs—especially those who face barriers to access. Every game, hike, and moment of wonder helps build a world where play is ageless, communities are vibrant, and every child can experience the joy of the outdoors.

Why It Matters

Play isn’t a luxury—it’s a catalyst. For adults, outdoor play and nature immersion can lower stress by 21%, boost mood by 20%, enhance creativity fivefold, reduce cardiovascular risk by 30%, and increase trust and connection by 25%. When grown-ups actively engage in play, park usage can rise by 40%, turning quiet green spaces into vibrant community hubs.

And yet, while play fuels confidence, curiosity, and connection, cost keeps many kids on the sidelines. Nearly half of K–12 parents wish their children could attend camp, but access skews heavily by income—with daily fees averaging $87 to $173. Red Rover Movement bridges that gap, transforming adult joy into youth opportunity.
